By Car
There are good roads all the way to Åre. If leaving from Stockholm, the best route to take is the E4 up to Sundsvall, and then the E14. Distances:
Stockholm - Åre 650 KM (takes about 7-8 hours)
Gothenburg - Åre 900 km
Malmö - Åre 1100 KM

By Train
On arrival, Åre train station is located less than a hundred metres from the town square. From here you can access everything. If you take the train, you could literally roll your bike off the carriage and cycle over to the cable car and be on the mountain in minutes. A really popular way is to take the night train. You can hire a bed/cabin for the night. Get a good nights sleep and you arrive around 8am in the morning. Swedish rail ticket would cost approximately 1200KR (130€) for a return ticket. Book in advance for a better prices.

**IMPORTANT: If you are going to take you bike on the train, you got to bag it up.
This is important because Swedish Rail will not allow you to simply roll your bike on as it is. Bag it up, and it is 'then' counted as a piece of luggage. Take the wheels off your bike, turn the handlebars sideways and bag it up so it looks like a (bulky) piece of luggage. You can buy specific bike box called 'crateworks' from Dr Spoke, or if you can not afford one, in 20 minutes you can mummify your bike in black plastic garbage bags, and it also works fine.

Flights
SAS fly from Stockholm to Ostersund 3 times daily, which is about an hour drive from Åre. A return flight costs around 750KR (82€) In 2003, those riders who came by plane were not charged any extra fee for taking their bike onboard. Hats off to SAS.

Shuttle / Taxi service from Östersund Airport

For those riders who are flying into Östersund, Åre Taxi will provide a special shuttle service to take you and your bike from the airport, into Åre.

Prices are:
from 1 to 4 people = 1070 SEK (€117 total)
from 5 to 8 people = 1270 (€139 total)

This is a super deal as the journey takes about an hour, plus a trailer for the bike. If you are not travelling in a group, it is important to inform Åre Taxi that you are willing to 'Share' the ride - so if there is anybody else wanting a taxi at the same time, they will bundle you together so you can split the fare and save some money. How nice is that.

If you are interested, email Lennart at info@taxi-are.se or call +46 (0)647 50149 and book in the time you will be arriving.
